Project ‘Founding Ceremony of the World Future Council’:
From 10 – 13 May 2007 the constitutional conference of the World Future Council took place in Hamburg and the founding ceremony was carried out in Hamburg’s Town Hall. The Mayor of Hamburg, Ole von Beust, and Honorary Council Member and entrepreneur Dr Michael Otto opened the ceremony. WFC founder Jakob von Uexküll and programme director Herbert Girardet introduced the Council’s targets and aims. Following, Bianca Jagger and Beate Weber, both current members of the Executive Committee, spoke on the topics of climate chaos and human rights. The international children choir Lukulule and well-known violinist Verena Chen completed the program with classic and contemporary music.
After the founding ceremony the council, its staff and advisers commenced the constitutional deliberations to adopt the WFC vision, mission and decision making procedures. Also, the working programme for 2008 was to conclude and the Executive Committee has been elected. The outcomes of the meeting, the new Executive Committee as well as the Hamburg Call to Action were presented to the media and public in a press conference on the 13 May.
