The Hamburg Authority for Urban Development and Environmental Issues – directed by Senator Anja Hajduk – is responsible for urban management and landscaping, construction and housing, infrastructure, energy management as well as nature conservation. The department “Sustainability” fosters a sustainable development in Hamburg in general and a sustainable urban development and education in particular. At present, the authority continuously organises Hamburg’s contribution to the UN-decade “Education for Sustainability” with its initiative “Hamburg Learns Sustainability” (Hamburg lernt Nachhaltigkeit).
In 2008, the “Hamburg Weeks on Future” (Hamburger Zukunftswochen) – initiated by the Hamburg Authority for Urban Development and Environmental Issues – took place for the second time already. In comparison to the year before, the 4-week-series of events all around sustainability offered an even broader entertaining and informative program.
Hamburg residents were invited to attend various events such as panel discussions, workshops and speeches, guided city tours, theatre performances, feasts and fairs.
In this way, sustainability and its implementation within everyday life should be demonstrated.
As in the year before, partners of the Authority were, next to the State Chancellery: Zukunftsrat Hamburg e.V., B.A.U.M. e.V. and the Schutzgemeinschaft Deutscher Wald, Landesverband Hamburg e.V.
