In 2008, the “Michael Otto Stiftung” (Michael Otto Foundation) organized the “Hamburg Talks on Nature Conservation“ for the 5th time. About 120 experts representing business, non-governmental organisations, politics and science took part in the event entitled “The End of Diversity? A Symposium outlining the consequences an increasing exploitation will have on both nature and agriculture”. Talks were held by speakers such as Dr Michael Otto, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Michael Otto Stiftung, Alexander Müller, Deputy General Director of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Jochen Flasbarth, Head of the Departement Nature Conservation and Sustainable Use of Natural Resources at the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, and Olaf Tschimpke, President of the Naturschutzbund Deutschland (NABU) e.V. The concluding panel discussion was presented by Corinna Lampadius, journalist and presenter of the tv-magazine “Spiegel-TV”.
