The 4th “Hamburg Talks on Nature Conservation“ were entitled “Fish Without Protection – A Symposium on the Possibilities of a Sustainable Cultivation of the Seas”. About 120 experts representing businesses, non-governmental organisations, politics and science followed the invitation by Dr Michael Otto to participate in the day-long symposium that took place in the Hotel “Le Royal Meridien”. Talks were held by Reinhard Priebe, Director Conservation Policy in DG Fisheries and Maritime Affairs of the European Commission; Dr Christian von Boetticher, Minister for Agriculture, the Environment and Rural Areas of the Federal State Schleswig- Holstein; Dr Daniel Pauly, Professor and Director of the Fisheries Centre, University of British Columbia, Vancouver as well as Karoline Schacht, Expert of the WWF Germany for Marine-Fisherie, and Dr Peter Dill, Managing Director of Deutsche See GmbH & Co. KG. The concluding panel discussion was moderated by Sebastian Knauer, journalist of the reputable German weekly news-magazine “Der Spiegel”.
